WECHAT BLOCKS BITMAIN ACCOUNT THAT PROMOTED THE SALE OF BITCOIN MINING

WeChat bloquea cuenta de Bitmain que promocionaba la venta de mineros de Bitcoin

The Chinese messaging application WeChat blocked a Bitmain account in which the company was promoting the sale of bitcoin mining equipment.

The information transpired this September 10 in news portals, after users noticed that searches on the Bitmain channel in WeChat, identified as antminersale, lead to a page that states that the account has violated rules. The message written by Tencent, the company that owns WeChat.

It is not specified what type of information disclosed would be breaking the law through this Bitmain account, and everything indicates that it was dedicated to the promotion of Antminer equipment. The accounts of the users Goldcoins and Delphy were also blocked and show the same message. Something that did not happen with another Bitmain account, under the user antminer_official, which has not been suspended so far.

In that sense, Goldcoins used the account to publish analysis of the cryptocurrency market, while Delphy is a blockchain project dedicated to the development of a market prediction protocol. On this Goldcoins was manifested through the Chinese website Zhihi, where he confirmed the suspension, after nine months of activity. He regretted the decision, assuring that he will keep up with the intentions of not violating laws and regulations.

In this regard, it is presumed that the suspension of Tencent is made within the framework of the provisional provisions approved last August by the Office of Cyberspace Management of China, with the aim of managing public information services on messaging platforms snapshot. Since the entry into force of these rules, on August 21, we proceeded to block other 30 accounts of companies linked to the sector.

According to the statement issued by the Chinese consortium on that date, these accounts were disseminating information on initial currency offers (ICO) and the cryptocurrency market in general, in violation of the aforementioned regulations, in addition to the prohibition that exists in that country. , for a year, to carry out and promote this type of activities.

This is a series of actions that are being taken in the Asian country, increasing the prohibitions against companies and the cryptoactive market, to which other telecommunications companies in China are joining. Such is the case of AntFinancial, the subsidiary of Alibaba, which now has the power to restrict or suspend transactions with cryptocurrencies, if it considers that they involve suspicious transactions.

At the time of writing this note, Bitmain, which is currently close to making a controversial initial public offering (IPO), had not ruled on the suspension of its WeChat account.
